Law Firm Challenges Chico on Homeless Evictions and Governor Announces Project Homekey Milestone

By: Tim Houchen
December 30, 2020 —

The new city council in Chico, CA adopted an emergency ordinance to allow enforcement of rules pertaining to no camping in city parks on December 8th.

Now, a Chico law firm has sent a cease-and-desist letter to the city challenging its decision to evict homeless campers from parks based on 9th Circuit Appeals Court findings that it is unconstitutional to punish people sleeping there because they have no where else to go. See video clip.

Governor Gavin Newsom today announced that all 94 Homekey projects have closed escrow on buildings that will provide more than 6,000 critically needed housing units for people experiencing homelessness throughout California.

A total of $750 million in federal Coronavirus Relief Fund dollars has been allocated to 51 applicants for the 94 projects. See the full story.
