Tim Houchen was homeless and living at the Santa Ana Civic Center between 2011 and 2015. He began advocating for the homeless community there while he was still homeless as a founding member of the infamous Civic Center Roundtable. The “grass roots” organization was composed of homeless individuals living at the civic center and Houchen was elected to serve as the groups first official spokesman in 2014.
Tim now lives in an apartment with his wife in the City of Anaheim where he serves as a Commissioner of Housing and Community Development. In addition to his post as the Publisher of Homeless Perspective, Tim is also a member of the Orange County Continuum of Care and serves as Co-Chairman of the Homeless Providers Forum. He founded the nonprofit, Hope 4 Restoration, in 2017 and serves as Executive Director of the organization.
Today, Homeless Perspective is a nonprofit online news service that confronts the issues of homelessness and housing as a solution to ending homelessness.
The target audience of Homeless Perspective is made up of homeless activists and advocates, service providers, persons experiencing homelessness and their supporters. Members of communities impacted by homelessness turn to Homeless Perspective as an unbiased alternative source of information opposed to otherwise mainstream media.
Homeless Perspective recently expanded its regional coverage to include all regional and statewide issues related to homelessness and housing throughout California.
Homeless Perspective proudly presents a state-wide regionally inclusive news service that is accurate, reliable and professional in a responsive environment and filled with media rich content.
Their mission is to inform, educate and make a call for action through positive engagement in support for solutions to end homelessness.
A broadened perspective of homeless issues and the pursuit of a greater purpose have created a platform where issues of homelessness in California can more clearly come into view.
